Rebuilding Connectivity - Computer Monitor Donation to the University of Peradeniya

Project Overview

In late 2025, Tropical Storm Ditwa brought devastating floods to Sri Lanka, causing widespread damage across the country. Among the institutions severely affected was the University of Peradeniya, one of Sri Lanka’s most prominent universities, where the agricultural sector and campus facilities sustained significant losses.

Responding to this urgent need, Netherlands for Sri Lanka coordinated the donation of 75 refurbished computer monitors — previously used in the Netherlands but still in fully functional condition — to the University of Peradeniya. This initiative was made possible through the coordination of Prof. Sarath Kodituwakku, who chairs the university’s fund raising committee.

The donated monitors are set to be distributed across key academic facilities, including the Management Faculty, the IT Center, and the main library, ensuring that students and staff can continue their academic work with minimal disruption.

This project reflects our organisation’s commitment to bridging the gap between surplus resources in the Netherlands and critical needs in Sri Lanka — turning recovery into opportunity.

What We Sent

The consignment, officially marked as “NLforSL Donation — Flood Relief UoP”, comprised 75 monitors carefully packed and shipped from the Netherlands to Sri Lanka as a humanitarian aid contribution with no commercial value.

The donation included three models, all from 2021:

  • 45 × HP EliteDisplay E241i LED Monitors
  • 20 × HP EliteDisplay E242 24″ Monitors
  • 10 × Dell Flat Panel 2009WT LED Monitors

The total shipment weighed approximately 520 kg including packaging — a significant logistical effort coordinated entirely by our volunteers.

This shipment was declared as humanitarian relief for the flood victims of Sri Lanka, handled and signed off by our Treasurer, Kanchana Rajapakshe, on behalf of Nederland voor Sri Lanka Stichting, The Netherlands.
